Trans Visibility & Representation Matter, the Future and more

Last night’s episode of Let’s Have A Fefe was nothing short of powerful and thought-provoking. As I arrived a little bit late, I was greeted by Freddy Prinze Charming, who was discussing the upcoming Trans Day of Visibility on March 31st. The conversation then turned to ways we can support the trans community and be better allies, especially given the rise of anti-trans legislation. It’s crucial for the LGBTQIA community to support everyone, including the T, in these trying times when the federal government continues to remain silent on this issue.

During the show, we were surprised by a special guest, Madame Askew, who talked about their fundraiser, the Tea-rific Drag Challenge. This challenge is an opportunity to raise funds for LGBTQIA+ organizations like Drag Story Hour – Arizona. If you’re interested in supporting this great cause, be sure to check out the fundraiser https://www.facebook.com/events/233174382608344.

We then delved into the latest news, and it was disheartening to hear about the recent school shooting in Nashville, where the shooter was trans and subsequently deadnamed and misgendered in the news. It’s worth noting that there have been 19 deadly shootings at schools or colleges this year alone, highlighting the dire need for gun control measures.

Other news we discussed was the shocking finding that firearms accounted for nearly 19% of deaths in youth ages 1-18 in 2021 and the fact that a Wisconsin school district banned Miley Cyrus/Dolly Parton’s song ‘Rainbowland’ due to its supposedly controversial lyrics. We also talked about how the movie ‘Ruby Bridges,’ which depicts the story of a Black 1st grader who integrated into an all-white school in the South, is currently under review in a Florida school district after a parent filed a complaint.

At one point, we even wondered if we could kick Florida off the US, along with some other southern states – a sign of our collective frustration with the ongoing challenges faced by marginalized communities.

If you missed the live stream, you can catch it on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or Twitch. Additionally, don’t forget to subscribe to our podcast on Apple Podcasts, as we’re almost at 10K downloads!
